Contemporary Topanga Ranch House | Barbara Bestor, 2007
Barbara Bestor of Bestor Architecture designed this home in 2007, near a hilltop above Topanga Canyon. Two buildings stand side by side, framing an entry promenade and an open patio.
The house runs on structural steel trusses and a custom-adapted prefabricated system, clad in reflective white metal. Inside, double-height rooms, a loft and a double-sided fireplace connect the kitchen and dining area with the primary bedroom. A pool runs the length of the house beside a 12-foot-deep shaded porch. Passive temperature control, solar panels and radiant heating serve the house, on 1.37 acres of fruit and olive trees.
